4/7/2017 0 Comments SAPS A RUNNIN'!Weekend update. Saps a runnun’! Yesterday our trees decided to wake up, and began pouring forth the liquid gold that we all look forward to. We collected sap from all of the buckets, with only one slight delay as we broke through some spring ice, and the hole was a little too deep for the bike to pull itself out on its own. With the aid of some old logs near by and some excellent off road skills in Jennifer, we were back on track with in about 30 minutes. This afternoon we fired up the evaporator and we are well on our way now. We are looking forward to spending time over the next couple of weeks both in the bush and in the sugar house, enjoying the sweet steamy smell of maple. If you haven’t placed your order yet, you may want to get it in soon. Last year we sold out by the end of the season!
This is also the first sugar season for Farley, so he is learning all about it. Duchess has shown him all of the trails, and he has them well memorized and knows which ones the deer frequent as well. Left to his own devices he can cover all of the trails and meet us back at the entrance to the bush by the time we get to the entrance from the sugar house. He can motor! Attached is a picture of the trail bosses keeping a keen nose out for the maple steam and listening to the crackle of the fire.
