2/17/2020 0 Comments GRAND RE-OPENING SPRING 2020Hello Maple lovers!
We are Back! After 25 years, my dream is coming true. The maple house construction began Fall 2019 and the interior is almost finished. The new evaporator is in place, and just begging to be put to work. We have had quite a team, a dream team to put everything together and get ready for this season. We will be packing down the trails this week, submitting our order for containers and supplies, and putting the last of the sap plumbing into place. Tapping will begin the last week of February. Duchess (black lab) is ready to greet everyone, and Farley (boxer) is ready to run the trails. 2019, had a few setbacks. I had hurt my back, that delayed construction of the new sugar house, and with the snowfall we had, the tent we had been operating in collapsed about two weeks before we were set to begin tapping. We made the decision not to try and force the season, but to re group and concentrate on 2020. I want to thank our dream team, beginning with my wife Jennifer, she has really been instrumental in organizing and keeping us on track. Dick, Keevin, Tyler, David, Dwaine, Roger, Jamie, and Doug. Our township building inspector Paul for all of his guidance, and Josh at CDL, who supplied the new evaporator and sap storage tank, as well as a wealth of information (and patience!). Stay tuned as we prepare to launch into Maple 2020! Sincerely, Michael

2/13/2019 0 Comments CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS 2019!Hello Maple Lovers,
We are excited to share that Deerpath Farm is expanding their maple business! Michael has managed the property well for 20 years and more trees are ready to be tapped each year. We have a new wood fired evaporator ready to go but this Spring we need all of our time and energy to focus on building and setting up the new Sugar House! We are sad to miss a year of making maple, but very excited about the updates to the farm! More info will come as we plan to have an Open House Party Fall 2019. Stay Tuned! We collected sap from all of the buckets, with only one slight delay as we broke through some spring ice, and the hole was a little too deep for the bike to pull itself out on its own. With the aid of some old logs near by and some excellent off road skills in Jennifer, we were back on track with in about 30 minutes. This afternoon we fired up the evaporator and we are well on our way now. We are looking forward to spending time over the next couple of weeks both in the bush and in the sugar house, enjoying the sweet steamy smell of maple. If you haven’t placed your order yet, you may want to get it in soon. Last year we sold out by the end of the season!
This is also the first sugar season for Farley, so he is learning all about it. Duchess has shown him all of the trails, and he has them well memorized and knows which ones the deer frequent as well. Left to his own devices he can cover all of the trails and meet us back at the entrance to the bush by the time we get to the entrance from the sugar house. He can motor! Attached is a picture of the trail bosses keeping a keen nose out for the maple steam and listening to the crackle of the fire. 3/28/2017 0 Comments IN THE MEANTIME, MAKE IT MAPLE!Last week of March. Late this afternoon I took to the trails with the trail boss’ to check on progress. Today was a dreary day with the temperature hitting a high of plus 4 C. So the temperatures are starting to get better. We still have a good two feet of snow in the bush. The sap is running, albeit quite slow so far. And most of what is in the buckets is frozen. Depending on just how the temps fluctuate over the next couple of days we could be boiling by the weekend. We have everything else ready to go, just waiting on the golden nectar from the trees. As we checked lines and buckets today, I began making mental notes of some areas we can expand next year.
In the meantime, make it maple. |
